Promoting the joint research through exchanging faculty members and co-supervising of graduate school students is also one of main purpose of A3I program.
Firstly, by bringing together professors from different universities, the program creates a platform for fruitful discussions and the exchange of ideas.
Through these interactions, faculty members are able to expand their knowledge and gain fresh insights that can inform their research.
Additionally, the program provides an opportunity for faculty members to network with other researchers and build collaborative relationships, which can further enhance the quality and impact of their work.
Secondly, as mentioned in 2.4.2, the students participating the mid-long term program will get joint supervision from their home and host university.
The students’ research topics combined the expertise of two supervisors from two different countries, which enable the supervisors to expand their research field.
The examples of exchange students from PKNU and UY as introduced in the section of 2.4.2 are the good manifestation in this regard.
Thirdly, it may also bring the chances of joint research among the faculty members related to this program.
Through the academic exchange activities, the faculty members related to the program are able to deepen their research.
On Dec.19th and 20th, 2022, the faculty member, Associate Prof. Won-Du Chang from Department of Computer Engineering, PKNU visited the University of Yamanashi. Prof. Chang exchanged opinions about A3I program and research ideas with Prof. Xiaoyang Mao, professor of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, who is also in charge of the A3I program. Prof. Hiromitsu Nishizaki of the Department of Mechatronics and Associate Prof. Masahiro Toyoura of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering also joined the communication about their research
In the afternoon of Dec. 20th, Prof. Chang gave a lecture entitled as “Recent Technologies for Time-series Signal Recognition” for students interested in A3I program, introducing PKNU campus and laboratories while sharing his research with UY professors and students.
In addition to the aforementioned Prof. Chang’s visit to UY, the four universities’ faculty members participating in the program have frequent exchange on both research and management issues. To take the most recent visit for an example, Prof. Xiaoyang Mao visited HDU and exchanged ideas with the professors of HDU on research and on the program operation. The following pictures show some exchange scenes among the four universities.
